Misty the naughty crochet kitten

Here’s the latest kitty to join the Crochet Bright and Beautiful litter.

Her name is Misty and she’s a grey Persian . Don’t let that cute face fool you, she’s quite the character. She will be that kitty to present you with a little dead mouse in your slipper in the morning because she loves you sooo much.

Just look at that sweet profile, that cute upturned nose and big blue eyes: butter wouldn’t melt huh? Well did you spot that really curly tail, shaped like a question mark, curiouser and curiouser ?

But when the adventures of the day are over, all Misty wants ( apart from dinner) is a nice lap to snuggle down on and someone to stroke her fluffy fur.

Could that be you?

If you want to give Misty a home, she costs £20 ( plus p+p) and comes in her own dinky white box. She measures 9″ from the tip of her toes to the tip on her pointy ear.

Find her over on Crochet Bright and Beautiful’s Facebook page. Like the page and leave me a message under the photo and I shall get back to you.

Eww… what is that on the floor?

MISTY! NOOOOOOOO!

Ms Jo Bangles ( with apologies to Mr Bob Dylan)

Along with the necklaces I’ve been making , I’ve been making elasticated bangles as well ( mainly for girls ) Well, you can’t have naked wrists now can you?

So here they are :

Pure pretty pinkness with pink glass heart charms

The ‘Barbie’ one.

Word bracelets.

Butterfly pearl

Pink floral

Rainbow cubes

You’re a star

Doll

Dancing Dolls

All bangles are a bargain £3.50 each (plus p+p) but if you want to avoid the p+p and fancy a trip to lovely Brixton , come and see me at my stall Crochet Bright and Beautiful tomorrow ( Saturday 30th June ) in Station Road.

I’m not there very often, ( probably 4 times a year) so this is your chance to come and grab yourself something unique and locally made.

Come and see me !

I’ll be there from 9.30- 5pm and if you don’t know what to look for, this is a hint:

Bright and Beautiful Cotton Crochet

I’ve not stopped crocheting. I can’t… I think I have a problem ; one that really doesn’t need fixing though!

I do have a serious yarn addiction though. I think it comes as part of the territory when you take up any form of needlework. There is always that particular shade of purple you just can’t quite find, or you stumble upon a very remarkable multicoloured/textured yarn that you really can’t not have.

My latest stash of yarn came from a fellow crochet person I have befriended on Facebook called Rachael. She runs her own business making gorgeous cushion covers and afghans from super soft and bright cotton.

http://www.clevercheshirecats.blogspot.com

She also sells cotton yarn and I’m addicted.

These are my latest creations using her lovely yarns . I’ve just run out and am waiting my next delivery.

Rainbow cotton infant hat and coat set

I call this my rainbow Wee Willy Winky set. Would fit up to 6 months.

For those of you reading this who are wondering if I have the pattern… sorry. I just made it up as I went along. For me, this is the beauty of crochet. It would be pretty easy to work out based on any other simple infant jacket pattern, just change the colours to suit.

Pretty cotton baby beanies flowers

Baby cotton flower beanies

I shall be making more of these in different colours and sizes. The Pistachio green one is newborn to 3 months, the Primrose yellow one is 3-6 months.

Rainbow cotton beanie ( fits up to small adult)

Looks fabulous on and is so soft and comfortable too.

I decided to make a matching set for Baby and parent.

So here is L’l Pirate and Big Pirate.

L’l and Big Pirate hat set.

Made from pure cotton in white and navy stripes, this lovely set is bound to put a smile on everyone’s face. L’l and Big Pirate hand embroidered in red and offset with silver coloured skull and crossbones charm.

Big Pirate hat is big enough to fit even Papa Bear.

So those are the latest cotton creations. Which one is your favourite? What would you like to see me make next?

Naughty Fire Fairy!

The naughty ones are the cutest …

Here’s my latest creation, inspired by the flowers that I picked up from the £1 shop. They were bright yellow and orange roses. They immediately shouted FLAMES to me.

She’s adorable don’t you think?

Crochet fairy

Introducing my brand new teacup Fire Fairy

She’s really dainty and dinky, measuring a mere 8 inches /20cm in length. She fits into a teacup, but she’d rather climb out and go and cause trouble…

Cute crochet fairy

Climbing out the teacup , off to find some naughtiness.

Although she has safety eyes and there is nothing sharp about her, she is a collectible rather than a toy due to her handmade nature. She’d make a very lovely friend for an older child .

Peepbo!

She has a sparkly crystal effect necklace in fiery colours and a little silver love heart that says Made With Love. Because she was.

Crochet fairy in teacup

Chilling in her cup.

She has glittery pink and black wings, her legs and arms are pose-able and she has a crocheted flame skirt. Her hair is wild, like flames made of a deep red shimmering yarn and a bright orange flecked yarn.

Flying off for new adventures

She comes packed in her very own white box and can even be purchased with the teacup should you wish.

Ready to leave home.

She costs just £25 plus p+p and is available either via my crochet Facebook page

Busy Making, Selling and Growing the Brand

Wow, how busy I’ve been .

In the last few weeks since I last posted ( yep, sorry for that, time just flies past) I’ve made lots, sold lots and made some more. I’ve sold at a market stall, a local event and a NCT Nearly New Sale and through my facebook page.

Here’s my stall at Brixton Makers Market,  through the heady smoke of Jerk Chicken that flavours that particular part of the world ( I’m a local lass, so I love it).

The stall grows in size every time

I met loads of great local people and seriously felt the love. I sold a few bits too!

Then there was the Croydon St Georges Day event . That was a splendid day, held in Croydon Old Town to bring back a more positive vibe to the area after the horrid riots . It was a wonderful affair, with the Pearly King and Queen and two rather smart gentlemen called Felix and Felix  who rode around on their penny farthings what what what.

Me and my darling granddaughter

My granddaughter did a sterling job of modelling my tiger hat. She was rewarded by keeping it . ( Well, I tried to take it back… )She loves being a ” Rarrr” as you can see.

Granny can growl with the best of them!

The day after the Croydon event  I held a stall at the local NCT Nearly New Sale.

Crochet Bright and Beautiful hits Vauxhall

It was an interesting affair, I’m not sure that putting hand made crafts in the middle of what is intrinsically a jumble sale ( albeit good quality jumble) is terribly good business sense. But it was worth a try, and to be fair, I did get lots of admirers, gave out loads of cards and sold a few bits. So it wasn’t a waste of time. ( My granddaughter did fairly well out of it too, I came back with more stuff than I went with… )

So my next plan of action is Spitalfields Market. I hope to trade there soonish.

In the meantime I’ve been making some more stuff:

Vintage style cherry brooch

Ladybird necklace

Granny square scarf

Crochet rings

My persian cat

Lulu collectible fairy

Coral pink mohair boots

Magic wishing necklace

Poppy Pug number 2. She's found a new owner already.

Super funky furry shaggy hot pink boots ( with bows)

Pitbull number 3, she's gone to her new owner.

So, I’m off to , you’ve guessed it, crochet!

Adorable Crochet Hats for Baby Boys and Girls

It’s all about hats for me at the minute. I can’t stop crocheting and coming up with new ideas to decorate snuggly baby hats for boys and girls. Here are the latest crop:

Baby boy earflap crochet hat rocket

Adorable baby boy rocket hat

I naturally gravitate towards girls things, being girly myself and having had two daughters and a granddaughter. Every now and then I remember to make something cute that baby boys can wear too. Here is a sweet hat with a crochet rocket on the front. The top of the hat is tied with the cutest rocket ribbon you will ever see!

Just look how cute that ribbon is!

The hat is deep lilac and is edged with fresh white with a silver thread detail. It is tied with two lilac ties finished off with white tassles. This cute and funky hat is crocheted with double strand of double knit making it soft and chunky and ever so snuggly for your little one’s head. Fits up to 6 months old.

Okay, back to the girls! I just can’t help myself. Here is a pink pixie style earflap hat for the little fairies in your life.

The hat can be tied on with the pink ties that are finished with soft green curly ringlets. Will fit baby girls up to 6 months old.

Finally ( for today at least) here is another for the girls.

Red and green flower petal beanie for babies

Here is a special little hat for your little flower fairy.

Inspired by the cutest pixie ribbon that you can see above, this hat is made again with double strand double knit on a large hook making it chunky yet soft. Nice and warm as well as nice and soft. The little leaf on top of the tiny stem finishes off this very sweet little beanie. Would fit up to 6 months.

I shall soon be listing these hats in my Folksy shop.

I think I need to go and start making some dogs  now. The last batch all sold.

Crochet Pixie Hats

Hand made Pixie Hats: A perfect gift for that special little someone

I’ve been making a few hats with infant boys in mind since I’ve had requests from people , following my Xmas Eve stall at the Brixton Makers market.  I’m still keeping to the fairyland theme but giving it a pixie spin. I don’t know about you, but I’m a little bit fed up of the emphasis on gendering things for kids. I’d rather make stuff that both boys or girls can wear; especially during those early years, surely? So I’ve come up with a cute striped pixie style hat adorned with cute appliques. So far I’ve done one in blue stripe and one in purple fluffy stripe. Both of them look adorable on; my granddaughter looks delightful in both just proving that cute is not gender specific!

The hats are modelled by one of my very strange soft sculptures , they look far better on real children! They fit ages 0-12 months ( depending on how big your head is of course, but they are stretchy.)

I’m going to be doing a whole range of colours and creature details, when I’m done they’ll be listed in my folksy shop and be available for purchase. They will cost £12 +pnp.

I’ll be back to show you the rest as I make them.

Ta ta for now!

A brand new logo

I just thought I’d share my new logo with you all for Crochet Bright and Beautiful: my new business for handmade crochet goods for babies and children and for the young at heart. Representing the spirit of CB&B , the logo  seemed to create itself. A Japanese fairy sits on a magical toadstool crocheting , the yarn coming from a rainbow that has fallen from the sky. Why a Japanese fairy ?you may ask. She is representing the art form known as amigurumi with which I have totally fallen in love.

Amigurumi (編みぐるみ?, lit. crocheted or knitted stuffed toy) is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. The word is derived from a combination of the Japanese words ami, meaning crocheted or knitted, and nuigurumi, meaning stuffed doll.[1] Amigurumi are typically animals, but can include artistic renderings or inanimate objects endowed with anthropomorphic features,[2] as is typical in Japanese culture. ( Wikipedia)

Since discovering the joy of crochet, it just lent itself to creating lots of uber cute things. Flowers,

and little darling slippers and shoes for both boys and girls in endless colour variations and designs all inspired by my childhood fixation with all things magical and faerie.

Buttons and bows

Red sailor bling

I’ve embraced the vintage , retro style of granny squares. Instead of trying to make it modern or edgy, I prefer to let it be what it is, retro and comforting. Using bright colour combinations within the granny square style, combining with 3D flowers , I have made cushions for the home that are both bright, stylish ( in a retro way) and very nostalgic.

Pretty cushion.

Isn't she a beauty?

In this dull grey world there is too much to be dour about. I think it’s time to bring out the colour and embrace the rainbow!

Cute kitty crochet cat

After feedback from customers at my very first market stall

I thought I’d make a cat in the same way as my very popular puppies.

Here is my first kitty:

black cat crochet collectible cute amigurumi

So, what do you think?

I find it  hard to judge, because I’m a dog person. Cats don’t really do it for me. So I don’t have the same emotional response to this kitty as I do for my puppies, but I know there are cat people out there. Are you one? If you are, what do you think?
