Creepy crochet oddities

I’ve made crochet dollies, even creepy crochet dollies and I’ve made cats and dogs from crochet. Now of course , in an obvious step, I’ve combined the two.

Now I’m making Crochet animal /human mix ups; crochet anthropomorphism if you will.

But why use words, when a picture tells the story far better?pugwoman12 pugwoman13 pugwoman16 box1 box6 bun9 kit6 kit16 kit18 kit24 Rooster Rooster2 Rooster3 Rooster5 Rooster7So  far there has been Pugwoman, a very worried looking lady with a few extra nipples with a very classical air.

Then there’s Bunny Girl, a very seductive creature indeed.

Then Kit E Kat , a pussy cat with a pvc mini skirt and black feather neckpiece.

Finally, probably the strangest of all so far is Cock a Doodle Dude. He’s pretty self explanatory.

I’m going to eventually set these dollies in environments to create art pieces  in their own right. ( Apart from Bunny Girl and Kit E Kat who are for sale in the wonderful alternative space that is the Brighton Arts Club. )

There will be others. My imagination is teeming with them , all woofing, miaaowing and mooing to get out.

Need more time…

Me? A crazy Crochet CAT lady? It’s a funny old life

It’s been too long since I wrote in this blog, and for that I apologise. I’ve been rather busy. Too busy to even snatch the odd half an hour it takes to write a blog post. So what have I been busy doing you may ask?

Crocheting. Lots of it. Why have I been crocheting? For fun? Well, yes crocheting is an endless source of amusement for me but it’s not that.

I’ve been selling crochet goods in a few shops and have had quite a busy time just keeping up with restocking.

I’ve sold the original Batcat batcat1to a lovely lady called Dee in the USA .

I’ve since made two more versions: this one for Alex in Australia and his girlfriend Sophie

and this one for a man called Dan in Canada. Dans BatcatBut Batcat’s aside, it’s been rather busy for another reason.

I’m crocheting lots because of a cat. Not just any old cat, but a miracle cat called Anakin. Anakin the Miracle Cat is a beautiful cat who lives in the USA.  He is rather a popular boy, not just because he has remarkably handsome features  and a personality to match, but also because he is rather special, being born with no pelvis or back legs. But don’t feel sorry for him, here he is climbing a Kitty Condo tower quite happily.

Isn’t he remarkable?

Well it all started for me when Anakin’s ‘grandma’ contacted me on my Facebook page ( to ask if I’d create a crochet version of her little kitty for her daughter. How could I say no? So I did.

And here is how he turned out. Anakin1Anakin6and this is how Anakin responded to his crochet doppelganger.AnakindoppelWell, he poses so well next to him don’t you think?

Well since Anakin, I’ve been flat out hooking, making pet portraits for people all over the world, from Norway and Denmark, to Australia , Canada , USA and of course, right here in the UK.

Here are a few of the lovely kitties ( and puppies) that I’ve had the pleasure of recreating.tgr9 Caspar9 Ein12 fluffyaino1 giz6 grim16 Guido2 IBK1 Jamie3 Jasper4 Litter5 molly4 MrK3 newshawti6 pat8 pdg2 sarahs4

As you can see, I’ve been a busy bunny. I’ve come quite a long way since I wrote this first post about my ambivalence towards making cats…

So, if you know anyone who is looking to have a dear pet immortalised in crochet or you are looking for that purrfect gift for a pet lover, pop over to either my Etsy shop (outside the UK) or for my UK people, my Folksy shop. There are links there to order either a cat , dog or a Diva Dolly. If you have other pet critters you’d like me to make, just drop me a line. I love a challenge!

Batcat, Robin and the Crochet Caped Crusaders

I’ve been so busy making stuff for shops and my upcoming Xmas stall at Brixton Station Road Market that I’ve sadly neglected the bloggosphere, for that I apologise.

To cheer y’all up I decided to show you two of my little kittens I’ve made.

Introducing Batcat

and Robin

Don’t they make a cute superhero cat couple? The Batcat was inspired by an image going around the Internet that I stumbled upon and I thought I just had to reacreate this little black kitten with black bat wings in crochet. So I did.

Then I made this little Sealpoint Siamese kitten and realised that she was the cat equivalent of Robin, with her lovely facial mask.

It didn’t take much of a leap of imagination to link Batcat to Robin.

I’ve also recently made a set of Batman and Robin dollies for a very lovely client and Facebook friend. They were based on the original 1960 Kapow! Adam West version of Batman and Robin. Here’s a few pics.

Batman Kapow!

Robin. Kersplat!

Off to save the day.

Well, I’ve not got much more time to write so I’ll leave you with more pics of little Batcat and Robin.

She’s so sweet

So fluffy!

Back to the hook. 🙂

An Angel Kitten for an Artistic Bird

My latest kitten is rather special.

She is a gift for artist friend John Lee Bird who I spoke about in my previous post. His very closest companion, friend and muse, Ferret the cat sadly passed away suddenly recently. I don’t even have the heart to ask what happened, it’s all too raw.

Since I’ve been making crocheted cats for a while, I thought it only fitting to make a special one for John.

Look at this wonderful creature. I tried my hardest to recreate her using the materials I had . It was an honest struggle. It was hard to recapture her exact colouring, but I gave it a go. While I don’t think I’ve got an exact likeness ( not really going to happen with a  crochet caricature ) but I think I’ve captured something of her spirit.

So here are  few pictures of my tribute to Ferret.

John is a wonderful artist and human being who makes his living by making art . You can help him keep creating beautiful things for the world by sponsoring him by buying something beautiful here

I just bought this gorgeous tote bag

Wearable art

Isn’t it pretty? Buying this piece helps John put on his exhibitions that keep art alive in our pretty dull world.

So what are you waiting for, go and have a look at what he has to offer.

In the mean time I’ll tuck little crochet Ferret up in her box and get her ready for delivery.

Princess the Stargazer Tabby Crochet Cat

What did I do when I declared I really wasn’t inspired by cats those few months ago?

I now can’t stop making them! Worse than that, each cat I make, I seem to become just a little bit more obsessed with in the making process.

You can almost see the progress at work when I line them up. Here is the latest kitten line up:

Can you spot the Stargazer amongst the other kittens?

Princess the Stargazer Tabby is my favourite kitty to date. She’s a tabby cat with really subtle markings and a fluffy white chest, paws and ear tips. She’s fascinated with the stars and gazes upwards to find the magical shooting star.

Around her neck is a pretty pink grosgrain ribbon and on the ribbon  is a charm bearing her name : Princess.

Look at her little face:

So sweet!

She’s even cute from behind.

Made from three shades of light brown mohair , Princess has amazing attention to detail.

Where is that shooting star?

From her little pink pads on her paws, pink inner ears and tiny pink lip, no detail is left undone. She even has the cutest whiskers .

Princess is a collectible not a toy and is suitable for older children as a decoration or a best friend. She will not withstand rough play due to her hand made nature. She is a kitten after all, all babies need to be treated gently.

She comes packaged in her own dinky white box and is a one off, original and entirely unique kitten. No two of my collectibles are ever alike.

She is 9″ high and sits unaided.

Available from my facebook page CrochetBrightandBeautiful.

Check out my collectibles album for more of my handmade cuties, including puppies and fairies.

If you like my work, please spread the word! I’d love it if you could ‘Like’ my facebook page if you haven’t already.

Time to make a few fairies and puppies . I think the litter of kittens is big enough for now.

Clarabelle, the Mustard Moggy.

Recently I’ve been making kittens from crochet.

Here’s a picture of the litter so far. I’ve had great fun making them. Each one has a distinctly different personality; from shy, sweet Twinkle, the black and white fluffy cat who is really dainty, Sparkle the little bit nervous but oh so pretty pure white pussycat , Misty, the grey Persian who hides behind her innocent face but is really a minx underneath to Clarabelle, my brand new mustard kitten who likes to keep her white paws really clean.

Here’s Clarabelle : she’s really a beauty with her big green eyes rimmed in black.

Her little pink tongue is hard at work keeping those sparkly white paws super clean.

She’s even cute from the back:

Here’s another view of her :Like my other kittens, she is 9 inches ( 23 cm) tall and made from fluffy, soft mohair.

She has a lovely white organza bow tied round her neck, finished off with a red flower that has a magic bead in the middle that glows from within when the light hits it.

If you have Facebook, please pop over to my crochet page

All of my kittens are unique and hand made ( by me of course) and no two are ever the same. They are all for sale, looking for loving homes ( not as toys as kittens are delicate, but are collectibles for older children and adults) . They cost £20 each, ( plus £4 p+p in the UK) and come packaged in their own dinky box.

Just leave a comment underneath the appropriate photo on my Facebook page and I’ll get back to you.

They would make a wonderful gift for someone who has everything.

You can’t buy these in the shops.

Misty the naughty crochet kitten

Here’s the latest kitty to join the Crochet Bright and Beautiful litter.

Her name is Misty and she’s a grey Persian . Don’t let that cute face fool you, she’s quite the character. She will be that kitty to present you with a little dead mouse in your slipper in the morning because she loves you sooo much.

Just look at that sweet profile, that cute upturned nose and big blue eyes: butter wouldn’t melt huh? Well did you spot that really curly tail, shaped like a question mark, curiouser and curiouser ?

But when the adventures of the day are over, all Misty wants ( apart from dinner) is a nice lap to snuggle down on and someone to stroke her fluffy fur.

Could that be you?

If you want to give Misty a home, she costs £20 ( plus p+p) and comes in her own dinky white box. She measures 9″ from the tip of her toes to the tip on her pointy ear.

Find her over on Crochet Bright and Beautiful’s Facebook page. Like the page and leave me a message under the photo and I shall get back to you.

Eww… what is that on the floor?

Crazy about Crochet Cats

It’s funny isn’t it how time can change things? A while ago I wrote this blog post where I was very unsure about my feelings towards making crochet cats. I’ve always been a dog person so making cute puppies was a natural thing for me to do, but cats? Hmmm.

Well, after discovering mohair and the joy of fluffiness I’m totally converted. So much so that the puppies have taken a back seat for now while I work on my litter of cute crochet kittens.

Here are my latest  pair: Twinkle and Sparkle.

crochet kittens

Sparkle is the white one, Twinkle is the black and white one.

They’re made from fluffy mohair that has tiny sequins in the thread. What an irresistible combination of fluffy and sparkly. Add a bit of ‘bling’ and a flower and bow and I’m bowled over with the impact of the cuteness. Both kitties have enormous attention to detail, having whiskers, eyelids, curly tails  and pink pads on the bottom of their cute paws and pink embroidered inside their ears. They are dinky in size, measuring just 9 inches from tip of the toes to the tip of the pointy ears.

Due to their handmade nature they are sold as collectibles only, suitable for careful ownership of an older child /adult. They do not withstand rough play. They are delicate kittens after all.

Here are some other pictures of the cute couple.

So , it’s official I’m a crochet cat lover. Now I’m rather addicted to sourcing mohair to make the rest of the litter.
