A brand new logo

I just thought I’d share my new logo with you all for Crochet Bright and Beautiful: my new business for handmade crochet goods for babies and children and for the young at heart. Representing the spirit of CB&B , the logo  seemed to create itself. A Japanese fairy sits on a magical toadstool crocheting , the yarn coming from a rainbow that has fallen from the sky. Why a Japanese fairy ?you may ask. She is representing the art form known as amigurumi with which I have totally fallen in love.

Amigurumi (編みぐるみ?, lit. crocheted or knitted stuffed toy) is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. The word is derived from a combination of the Japanese words ami, meaning crocheted or knitted, and nuigurumi, meaning stuffed doll.[1] Amigurumi are typically animals, but can include artistic renderings or inanimate objects endowed with anthropomorphic features,[2] as is typical in Japanese culture. I’ve embraced the vintage , retro style of granny squares. Instead of trying to make it modern or edgy, I prefer to let it be what it is, retro and comforting. Using bright colour combinations within the granny square style, combining with 3D flowers , I have made cushions for the home that are both bright, stylish ( in a retro way) and very nostalgic.

Pretty cushion.

Isn't she a beauty?

In this dull grey world there is too much to be dour about. I think it’s time to bring out the colour and embrace the rainbow!

Cute kitty crochet cat

After feedback from customers at my very first market stall

I thought I’d make a cat in the same way as my very popular puppies.

Here is my first kitty:

So, what do you think?

I find it  hard to judge, because I’m a dog person. Cats don’t really do it for me. So I don’t have the same emotional response to this kitty as I do for my puppies, but I know there are cat people out there. Are you one? If you are, what do you think?

Labrador Love

Little pup waiting for his new owner

Yes I’ve made another puppy. Oh how I love amigurumi. It is my new obsession.

I had  to make a Labrador puppy, maybe I should wrap him up in a certain brand of toilet tissue?

I’ve decided to equip of all my puppies with a little lead so all prospective owners can take them on proper walks.

Isn’t he just adorable?

So what would you call him?

Flower Fairy cuteness

I’m still beavering on, crocheting items for my upcoming Xmas Craft stall at Morley College.

I know, these darlings are labour intensive and really you can’t charge what they are really worth in man ( woman in my case) hours, but I so love bringing these magical creatures to life.

The pattern is based on the wonderful work of Beth Webber ( she of the muse status in my previous doggy amigurumi posts.) A fabulous photo tutorial for making this fairy doll with her moveable head is available here

The blue haired one is rather punky and funky with her textured dreads and curls and far out eyes. She wears green boots and a flower tutu.

She's so sweet

She looks like she’d have a kick-ass attitude. I like that in a fairy.

Her sister sprite is a little more delicate with her long legs and green fluffy hair.

Pretty gorgeous

I'd make a wonderful gift for a special person

Well, I’m off now to start something new.

So many things to crochet, so little time!
