Newborn baby Gift sets

A perfect gift for a brand new little person

There are those times when friends and family announce that they’re going to have a baby. What a joyful occasion!

Such a special time merits a very special gift.

You can’t get more special than a hand made crocheted bootie and hat set, all presented in it’s own cute white shoebox.

Ladybird newborn boxed set.

Kitty cat newborn boxed set

The idea behind these boxed sets is to provide a gender neutral gift that can be given to prospective parents even before they announce whether the stork brought them a fairy or a pixie.

Worked up in colours other than pink or blue, these boxed sets consist of a cute   beanie hat to fit newborn and matching t-bar booties.

All sets feature unique designs and carefully painted wooden buttons on the booties and matching crocheted appliques on the hats.

The sets cost just £15 +p&p which I think represents incredible value for a hand crafted unique gift. ( I also try and infuse them all with oodles of love).

Sugar and Spice and all things Nice

That’s What Little girls are made of  … apparently.

I’m not sure that I sign up for that piece of stereotypical gendering nonsense, but these sweet pink booties are proving to be a little bit popular.

Pink sugared almonds, rosebuds and butterflies inspired these cuties.

Pink booties in a box

Sold packaged in their very own white shoebox with pink lining. So pretty.

I usually only make one of each type/size but since I posted this up on Pininterest I’ve had three orders, two from overseas. So now Crochet Bright and Beautiful is going International! Whoop Whoop!

I’m also selling to a very lovely local lady who is about to have a baby which pleases me no end. I love to be part of my local community.

So now here I am crocheting away trying to keep up with the demand for this particular pair of sugared almond rose butterfly booties.

They are rather sweet.

And I think a bargain for only £8 plus p+p . Where else can you get something lovingly handmade for that price?

Easy to order from my facebook page Crochet Bright and Beautiful , just leave me a message and I’ll get back to you .

Frogs and Snails and Puppy Dogs Tails

That’s what little boys are made of?

I’ve always been a little uncomfortable with the very gender biased rhyme: What are Little Girls made of?

I know quite a few young ladies who are not all sugar and spice and all things nice.

BUT it has given me the perfect opportunity to theme some more cute little crocheted booties for boys (and girls).

Here are the booties inspired by frogs:

Fastened securely at the ankle with a spotty green button.

These darling froggy feet would fit newborn and stretch up to 6 months of age.

They’re soft but hardwearing, made in acrylic yarn.

Here are the ones inspired by snails.

Blue snail infant crochet booties in the box

Jewel blue with a snail or two

They’re made with beautiful royal blue acrylic yarn, making them hard wearing and easily washable. They would stretch to fit up to 6 months of age and the t-bar strap fitting makes sure they stay on those little kicking feet.

Cute as a snail button.

These lovely blue booties are fastened securely with a smart pinstriped blue button  and are decorated with a crocheted cotton leaf and a hand painted smiley wooden snail button. Just totally adorable. I think they’d be appreciated by boys or girls.

Puppy Dogs Tails?

Maybe not. Will purple traffic lights do?

Here are some very smart purple shoes

Again these adorable baby shoes will stretch to fit up to 6 months of age.

I think all these booties are suitable for boys but would also look really cute on girls too.

Girls can be made of *frogs and snails and puppy dogs tails as well can’t they?

* disclaimer

I’m aware that the original rhyme goes … slugs and snails and puppy dogs tails…

but frogs are just so much cuter. I mean, slugs? Ugh. They’re just homeless snails aren’t they?

Cute new shoes for cute new feet

Time to make more shoes

I’m leaving hats for now and turning my attention back to making crochet shoes for babies .

They are just so adorable, being so small, they have instant cute factor. I’m trying to make some shoes that aren’t just for girls. The temptation to make pairs of shoes festooned with butterflies and flowers is almost overwhelming but I think that cute little baby boys deserve my attention as well.

So here are two new pairs of t bar booties that are suitable for boys or girls .

Cute boots for babies.

This pair although they look pink in the picture are more of a lilac/grey , hard to capture the true colour on camera.

How sweet!

Well, maybe they’re still more suitable for girls… here is another pair that are a nice rich deep maroon. I’m going to be making plenty of others in lots of different colours all decorated with buttons.

Lovely red feet. Cute as a button.

They would fit from newborn up to 6 months as they are quite soft and stretchy and the t-bar element holds them nice and snugly on the foot.

Here’s a larger pair that I made with chunky yarn that will fit up to two years old. I think they’re totally adorable.

I’ve got a few market stalls coming up in the next few months in the Lambeth area, so I’m off to make some more.

Come back and see what I’ve made next!

A brand new logo

I just thought I’d share my new logo with you all for Crochet Bright and Beautiful: my new business for handmade crochet goods for babies and children and for the young at heart. Representing the spirit of CB&B , the logo  seemed to create itself. A Japanese fairy sits on a magical toadstool crocheting , the yarn coming from a rainbow that has fallen from the sky. Why a Japanese fairy ?you may ask. She is representing the art form known as amigurumi with which I have totally fallen in love.

Amigurumi (編みぐるみ?, lit. crocheted or knitted stuffed toy) is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. The word is derived from a combination of the Japanese words ami, meaning crocheted or knitted, and nuigurumi, meaning stuffed doll.[1] Amigurumi are typically animals, but can include artistic renderings or inanimate objects endowed with anthropomorphic features,[2] as is typical in Japanese culture. I’ve embraced the vintage , retro style of granny squares. Instead of trying to make it modern or edgy, I prefer to let it be what it is, retro and comforting. Using bright colour combinations within the granny square style, combining with 3D flowers , I have made cushions for the home that are both bright, stylish ( in a retro way) and very nostalgic.

Pretty cushion.

Isn't she a beauty?

In this dull grey world there is too much to be dour about. I think it’s time to bring out the colour and embrace the rainbow!

CROCHET BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL : trying to put the colour and sparkle back into life in my own small way.

Big plans ahead.

Have put my head together with my youngest daughter and we have decided to screw our courage to the sticking place ( to quote Lady Macbeth) and start to make stock for a market stall.

My youngest picked up crochet really fast and is now churning out crochet flowers at a remarkable speed considering she has only been doing it for three days! So, looking ahead to December, we are working on stock for a pitch at Spitalfields Market and possibly Greenwich Market too.

I love having a project on the go and this feels good;  I love crocheting all things bright and beautiful : cushions, bags, headbands, hats, booties ( oh so gorgeous!) and tutus with crochet appliques plus handmade greetings cards and hair accessories. It will take a while, but I guarantee it will make the prettiest market stall you have EVER seen.
