Wear flowers with pride

Here in the UK it seems that Summer has been kidnapped and we’ve been given lots of rain in it’s place.

Even so, nature has still carried on regardless and I’ve been struck by how many beautiful flowers have continued to blossom despite being pelted by almost incessant rain.

Inspired by many of these flowers, I created this hat.

I’ve rather fallen in love with this crocheted hat. I may just keep it.

I don’t usually wear feminine hats to be honest. I’ve been known to wear a fedora or two though… strange woman that I am. Maybe this time I shall make an exception and wear flowers on my head with pride.

Or maybe I will sell it .

Bright and Beautiful Cotton Crochet

I’ve not stopped crocheting. I can’t… I think I have a problem ; one that really doesn’t need fixing though!

I do have a serious yarn addiction though. I think it comes as part of the territory when you take up any form of needlework. There is always that particular shade of purple you just can’t quite find, or you stumble upon a very remarkable multicoloured/textured yarn that you really can’t not have.

My latest stash of yarn came from a fellow crochet person I have befriended on Facebook called Rachael. She runs her own business making gorgeous cushion covers and afghans from super soft and bright cotton.

She also sells cotton yarn and I’m addicted.

These are my latest creations using her lovely yarns . I’ve just run out and am waiting my next delivery.

 

I call this my rainbow Wee Willy Winky set. Would fit up to 6 months.

For those of you reading this who are wondering if I have the pattern… sorry. I just made it up as I went along. For me, this is the beauty of crochet. It would be pretty easy to work out based on any other simple infant jacket pattern, just change the colours to suit.

I shall be making more of these in different colours and sizes. The Pistachio green one is newborn to 3 months, the Primrose yellow one is 3-6 months.

Looks fabulous on and is so soft and comfortable too.

I decided to make a matching set for Baby and parent.

So here is L’l Pirate and Big Pirate.

L’l and Big Pirate hat set.

Made from pure cotton in white and navy stripes, this lovely set is bound to put a smile on everyone’s face. L’l and Big Pirate hand embroidered in red and offset with silver coloured skull and crossbones charm.

Big Pirate hat is big enough to fit even Papa Bear.

Baby Blue Sky Beanie

The Cutest Beanie for the Cutest Babies

So cute

This little beanie really sums up the spirit of Crochet Bright and Beautiful. It’s turqoise blue with grass around the rim and a ladybird nestling in the blades, with a dinky little embroidered  bumblebee buzzing around the sky. Of course there is a beautiful bright rainbow in the sky.

Pure gorgeousness, but then again I am biased. I did make it.

It’s hand crocheted in double strand double knit acrylic which makes it nice and chunky, soft and ( I think most importantly) easy to wash. When it gets grubby, just bung it into the washing machine on a 40 degree wash. Dry flat on a towel and you’re ready to wear again.

Oh I forgot to mention, the top of the hat features a bright yellow sunshine! Great to bring the sunshine back in the middle of our cold grey winters.

This super cute beanie would fit baby boys or girls up to the age of around 6 months ( depending on head size, we’re all different!) Maximum circumference 16″/40 cm.

A brand new logo

I just thought I’d share my new logo with you all for Crochet Bright and Beautiful: my new business for handmade crochet goods for babies and children and for the young at heart. Representing the spirit of CB&B , the logo  seemed to create itself. A Japanese fairy sits on a magical toadstool crocheting , the yarn coming from a rainbow that has fallen from the sky. Why a Japanese fairy ?you may ask. She is representing the art form known as amigurumi with which I have totally fallen in love.

Amigurumi (編みぐるみ^?, lit. crocheted or knitted stuffed toy) is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. The word is derived from a combination of the Japanese words ami, meaning crocheted or knitted, and nuigurumi, meaning stuffed doll.^[1] Amigurumi are typically animals, but can include artistic renderings or inanimate objects endowed with anthropomorphic features,^[2] as is typical in Japanese culture. Since discovering the joy of crochet, it just lent itself to creating lots of uber cute things. Flowers,

I’ve embraced the vintage , retro style of granny squares. Instead of trying to make it modern or edgy, I prefer to let it be what it is, retro and comforting. Using bright colour combinations within the granny square style, combining with 3D flowers , I have made cushions for the home that are both bright, stylish ( in a retro way) and very nostalgic.
