The idea behind these boxed sets is to provide a gender neutral gift that can be given to prospective parents even before they announce whether the stork brought them a fairy or a pixie.

Worked up in colours other than pink or blue, these boxed sets consist of a cute   beanie hat to fit newborn and matching t-bar booties.

All sets feature unique designs and carefully painted wooden buttons on the booties and matching crocheted appliques on the hats.

The Wheels on the Bus

Celebrating the London Routemaster Bus

Finishing off my transport theme of beanie hats ( check out my other transport beanies here) I thought I’d end with a London icon , the Routemaster bus.

These gorgeous buses were sadly taken off London roads a few years ago and have been sorely missed by Londoners and tourists alike. The few that remain have been privately bought and used as tour buses or party buses.

The good news is that the Routemaster is back! New and improved apparently , well it certainly is on my hat…

Here is my tribute to the lovely big red London bus.

The wheels on the bus go round and round

This lovely muted green chunky beanie is made with double strand DK acrylic yarn, soft and hard-wearing and very easy to wash. The double decker red bus is a crocheted applique and is carefully sewn on . The bus stop is a fun detail. This fun bus beanie crochet hat would fit children from 2 and stretch to fit up to adult.

This lovely hat has been sold to a sweet little boy who is bus crazy. His mum says he loves it!

Here’s the train beanie. This one is for bigger boys and will fit up to around 2 years old. It’s made in chunky soft acrylic cream yarn and is very cosy as well as being very cute.

Baby Beanies

Still crocheting  ( what’s new?) and I’m trying to focus on making cute stuff for baby boys. I do tend to really steer towards all things girly so making stuff for boys is often a bit of a challenge.

So here’s what I’ve made:

Smart stripes for handsome chaps

Both hats are made in chunky acrylic yarn and will fit newborn up to 3months of age.  The green striped one is embellished with a crocheted toadstool. I think it’s really cute.

How cute and cosy.

The navy striped beanie is also nice and chunky and soft and is decorated with the most gorgeous bright and yummy coloured assorted buttons.

What a smart hat this is!

 

Oh I can’t help myself. I had to make a girly one too. Here it is, made in baby soft yarn with a pretty pink slub, this delicate little beanie would fit a newborn fairy girl up to 3 months. Decorated with a dainty pink cotton daisy , it is super cute and super soft to boot. In the words of Robert Palmer it is Simply Irresistible.

Snow White and Rose Red: pretty beanies

Here are two beanies inspired by the fairy story of Snow White and Rose Red.

Rose red: a pretty hat for a pretty baby

Rose Red is the smaller of the two beanies and would fit up to three months of age. It is made with double strand DK yarn , in bright red and fuschia . Edged in the bright purply pink and finished off with a pretty scarlet rose with two green leaves. Just adorable.

Big sister Snow White’s hat would fit 3months to 9 months , made in soft,chunky champagne acrylic yarn, edged in pure white and adorned with a snow white rose with two deep green leaves. Purity and innocence in a pretty beanie. How darling would your little baby girl look in this?

If you are around the South London area on the 30th March I shall be holding a stall at the brand new St Matthews Sundowner fair , in the craft  tent in St Matthews Peace Garden, Brixton between 5-10pm.

Alternatively, I’m going to be at the Riverside ( Vauxhall) branch of the NCT’s nearly new sale  on Sunday 22nd April , at the Carmelita Centre, 41 Vauxhall Walk, SE11 5JT, between 9.30am and 12 noon.

Beautiful Buttony Boho Beanie

My latest crochet creation.

Smart stripes and beautiful buttons

 

Here I was using up all the bits of lovely soft cotton yarn that I had left. I didn’t really plan the colours, just let the hat create itself.

Then I used some lovely buttons to accentuate the colours.

Button detail

It is made in super soft, natural cotton yarn so is light and soft and washes beautifully in a cool wash. It would look stunning teamed with jeans and a lacy jumper or even to top a swirly skirt, boho style.  It’s casual but dressy , what a perfect accessory.

This hat will fit adults.

Easy Tiger!

Now here’s a hat to turn heads.

I'm a tiger, I'm a tiger...

It’s a tiger hat, sans the terrible teeth. It is made in yellow and orange yarn with black and white detail. It will stretch to fit up to adult, but is probably more suitable for children age from around 3 years old.

Beautiful tiger stripes.

For When it’s a bit Nippy outdoors

Baby it’s cold outside

Brrr, it’s freezing out there. Seriously folks you need to wrap up to walk out in the UK at the minute. Yes I know, it’s winter and we really should expect it and if we were Scandinavians or Canadians we would be sunbathing right now! A nice hat is essential in this chilly snap. Tis reet nippy out there…

My facebook wall is being plastered with fantastic crochet links by my lovely friends. Seems like I’m the go-to person if there’s a funny or interesting crochet item and I’m loving it. The latest is this one: Fabulous breastfeeding hat that was posted by my darling Swedish friend, thank you Lena! It certainly provoked comment especially by one  lady who really was blown away by it. So I offered to make one for her.

And here it is.

What’s the matter? Is it a little plain for  you? It’s terribly sophisticated and classy and would go with anything, being  a nice neutral shade of cream.
